My entire being revels in creating things that will touch your soul and warm your heart. That is what I am about! Creating things from natural ingredients and sustainable materials bring immense pleasure to both me and the world.
Hiya, I’m Mel Hurst, aka SugarMama. I call beautiful New Zealand home. I am also a proud mum to my son Aaryan Luke – 12 years old & my baby girl Maayan Zen – 8 years old in 2019. I have been happily married to my best friend and soul mate Avi for the last 25 years. We are originally from India, though I am Anglo-Indian (my grandparents were British); we moved to New Zealand in 2000. I have been a flight Attendant for most of my employed years and just closed that chapter in 2012 after my daughter was born. I am also the CEO of my Company Mel’s Gourmet Foods – we manufacture gourmet Indian food for delis and supermarkets in New Zealand & overseas.
I am also a Cake Artist and own a designer Cake Studio called Sugar and Spice Cakes. Today I run my spice brand Mel’s and Sugar and Spice Cakes from a HACCP approved kitchen in Auckland and work with an awesome and talented team of friends.
Art, Craft, Cakes & Sugarcraft has always been my passion and yes, if you come to my home, all the paintings are done by me! I love everything homemade and handmade. I am happiest when I am in my ‘creative’ mode. I love baking, painting and creating handmade gifts.
I am also an advocate for natural products. With the amount of toxins added into commercial products, when we hand make things we know what is going into them. From soap, to cosmetics – I have created these amazing products right in my own kitchen at home with beautiful and natural ingredients that are not only great for your body but they are also good for the environment.
